What is too cold for Phaiocalanthe Kryptonite? Male
Default What is too cold for Phaiocalanthe Kryptonite?

The vendor I bought it from gave me a Phaius sheet and said to treat it as a Phaius. My research (Baker's) seems to indicate that Phaius' should only stay out until the temperature is averaging about 53 degrees at night. However, in years past I was under the assumption that leaving them out until almost freezing was the way to go for bud development (also based on internet research, don't remember where it was though).

So what is correct here? I guess I'm asking for both the Phaius' I own and the Phiocalanthe.

It's supposed to dip to about 45 degrees tonight and remain there for a few days. Needless to say, most of my orchids have found a warm indoor windowsill today, lol...

I suggest you follow Baker's...Ideally, Phaius should be grown in the temperature range of 60 ° F. (16 ° Celsius) to 75 ° F. (24°Celsius) night to day. However, the plants will tolerate lower temperatures to 40 °F. (10 ° Celsius) or higher temperatures to 95 °F. (32 ° Celsius) on an occasional, short-term basis. Even so, these extremes can affect growth adversely and should be avoided if possible.
