Mormolyca ringens?
Default Mormolyca ringens?

Hey folks,
I'm getting together a naturalistic vivarium for orchids to be mounted on the walls & driftwood. And I scored a Mormolyca ringens (it's on it's way) but I can't find info on it's size. The flower at the tip of it's peduncle is said to be about 10" high but how tall do the leaves (with pseudobulb) get?

Thanks! Is yours matured and blooming at 12"? Is it fine with 70-80*F temps? The ad I bought it from said it was a good grower from warm-hot temps but always good to ask an independent oppinion.
I more wish sellers would put matured sizes (heights) in their catalogs/evilbay listings along wth the pretty pictures and prices incase I can't find it online or in my books. Likely it doesn't matter in a greenhouse but with so many people these days needing orchidariums/terrariums to grow a little jungle size becomes a big notation for us.

Swords, it gets about a foot tall with long spikes of yellow flowers striped with red. Mine is a prolific bloomer in the early summer (just finished). You will enjoy this plant.

Mormolyca ringens is an excellent species.
As their plants mature, several spikes will occur at the base of each pseudobulbs.
Growing season starts in mid summer and will end in early winter.

Thanks Dorothy.
Can anyone who is growing them here add any tidbits? I got mine in Feb. and it's bloomed twice. Once successfully and one shriveled up and died. I'm guessing that it likes high humidity if it's going a vivarium.
