Default Corallorhiza maculata

last year I found a total of 7 plants growing along one of the nature trails at work. When I checked them yesterday, there were 24! Of course, next year there may be none..such is the nature of these saprophytic orchids. Challenging to photograph since they grow in such shaded areas and the flowers are so small. I had to hand-hold at 1/15 of a second....guess I should invest in a tripod.

In the woods here in Santa Cruz, you can find them everywhere. Great pictures.

Very cool! Being that it is a saprophyte, I was surprised the flowers had pigmentation -- guess I was assuming they'd be white.
