Default Campilocentrum spannagelii

The genus Campilocentrum is very succesful, having a wide distribution throghout the South and Central Americas. The species pictured is an aerial orchid native of the southeast Brazilian rainforest. It grows hanging in the air, just one or two roots holding it on the tree branches. The roots are born always on the oposite side of the leaves and the floral stem always appear by the roots side. Reproducing its natural growing habit, I grow mine haning in the air in the shadier corner of the shade house.

Most interesting and unusual orchid, Mauro! Certainly new to me. Do the blooms last very long and is it fragrant?

Shirley, the flowers are slightly fragrant and last for about two weeks.
