My trip to St. Lucia
Default My trip to St. Lucia

Hey,

I went on a trip to St. Lucia in February. I saw many plants, but I would like to know which ones are orchids.

I am going to attempt to attach images one by one. I am not so good with computers.

The second one is not an orchid, but it is a cool plant!

Great pics! I will try and identify what you have...

Post 1
1.) Tillandsia sp. (a Bromeliad, not an orchid)
2.) Begonia sp. (Begonia, not an orchid)

Post 2
1.) There are two orchids. The one in the middle is Papilionanthe teres (native to Asia). The other cane orchid looks to be an Epidendrum of some kind. They are both orchids. The other red/orange flowers are Heliconia (not an orchid
2.) Eucharis grandiflora (aka 'Amazon Lily'; not an orchid)

Post 3
1.) I think Hamelia patens (aka 'Fire Bush'; not an orchid)
2.) Spathoglottis plicata (an orchid native to Asia, naturalized throughout the Caribbean)

Post 4
1.) Yellow form of Caesalpinia pulcherrima (aka 'Mexican Bird of Paradise'; not an orchid)
2.) Another Tillandsia sp. (a Bromeliad; not an orchid)

Post 5
1.) Flowers of Papilionanthe teres (orchid native to Asia)
2.) Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (not an orchid)

Post 6
1.) Nicolaia elatior (aka 'Torch Ginger'; not an orchid)
2.) Musa sp. (banana)

Post 7
1.) Looks like plants of Dendrobium and Oncidium (both orchids)
2.) Vanilla planifolia (as you said; it's an orchid)

Hope this helps!

-Pat
