Phaius tankervilliae
A showy and, in my opinion, lovely specie.

Hi Phil
Is that the plant you bought at the Kasetsart show. My plant is just finishing flowering and covered in seed pods now. I crossed it to Spathoglottis Lion of Singapore and Spatho Leung Aroon. I got pods on the spathos too. They seem to be inter-fertile. Nice pics. I have found out that this yellowish red form is the Malaysian form of the species.

I think it is more redish brown Phil. I have seen a redish brown form at the markets and the flowers droop down more and self-pollinate very easily. Inferior in many ways to this form. I prefer the clear colour of this and the fact they dont self so much.
When crossing with this species, a variety given to selfing is a lousy parent. You can end up with a flask of the same plant or the trait carries I have heard.
