I just bought one last week at a local nursery. It has 5 huge spikes and I cannot wait for it to bloom. Meanwhile it is taking up a bit of space in the GH-too cold for it to play outdoors.

I have had this species growing in an area where the winter temperature dropped to 0 celcius. It was quite happy in the ground as a garden plant. Mind you, that was the Australian form and I dont now if forms from other countries are less cold hardy

Our temps here on the Texas Gulf Coast have gone below the freezing mark several times this winter. I just read a comment from someone in my local orchid society saying his Phaius' had not survived the freeze. So, I will have to find a spot where the plant can be both sheltered from the winds and can be covered adequately if necessary.
