Just noticed yesterday that one of my pods was yellow and dark brown on the end. It dropped off this morning. Another pod is turning yellow. All are fat and none are longer than 3-5 inches. Plenty of new growth on the vine and it is actually blooming again in at least one place. Any suggestions?

Hmm, that's actually too soon for a planifolia pod to ripen. Which brings me to my question...is it a planifolia? When I went back and reviewed your pics, the flowers and developing pods sort of look like pompona to me. If it is, I'm not sure if that's the reason for the early ripening? Any pics?

Half turned black and fell off. None looked like the vanilla beans I see online. They are short and fatter. Not sure if this is a planifolia. Pods are only 4 in long and have ridges. I haven't been able to take as good care of my orchids as I would have wanted to due to a job change(unexpected). Start the new job next month. The vanilla beans will have to fend for themselves. I'll still try to post pics.

Hmm, it's sure beginning to sound like pompona to me...

I thought the pods looked like cute little zucchini's!

So is pompona another type of vanilla orchid? Are the pods used?

Pompona is another Vanilla species, called the banana vanilla. The pods can be used, too.

OK guys, here's the update. The pods never got longer than my little finger. The last of them recently turned brown and dropped off about a month ago. They turned a dark brown and then dried up. Sorry for the lack of updates. Had a job change. So what do yall think? I think it's definitely not a planifolia(which is what it was sold to me as). Pretty plant though so I'll keep it anyway. It's growing like kudzu now. What do you think it is? I though Pompona beans were longer.
