Do Phaius make secondary roots? Male
Default Do Phaius make secondary roots?

Just curious as I have not disturbed mine during a repotting enough to know yet ......But I have one surface root that has died at the tip and now has one seconday root coming off.

Any one know if the phaius do this often or is it just a ocassional thing and not to be expected regulary?

What do you mean by "secondary" roots? Aerial?

If so, their growth is very limited, compared to most other plants, which is pretty typical for what are mostly terrestrial plants.

No not Aerial, but a root branching off the other roots. That Is what I am wondering.I ask simply out of curiosity as I just found one root near the surface of the pot the tip had died on and it has branched off a secondary root and I wondered it all the roots would do this if the tips had died.

The tips of the roots near the surface seem to die when they reach the pot edge or are blocked by a a pb .This made me wonder if they would produce more secondary roots from them?

Oh, I see!

Yeah, that's pretty common among all plants. In fact, sometimes when I'm repotting "out of season", I'll intentionally trim the roots so they will branch, making that new root growth tailor itself to the new environment.
