OmG I think my phaius is spiking
Finaly after three years my Phaius -Dan Rosenberg "tropical Ice" has what hopefully is a spike. The leaf base has split open and I see a new growth of some sort developing ...could be a new Pb but I dont think so ....cautiously optomistic on my part yet.
It has been growing one new pb off every old one each year so far and each has been bigger than the last but never more than one for each old Pb so far,and those have always been in the spring not fall so I am nervously waiting to see what I get .
I did change the growing conditions this year raising the temps the light levels and amount of water.I would be just as pleased to see two new growths from each old Pb too but so far I see just one so I will hope for a spike and two new growths later.

Going to borrow a digital camera tonight so I can post some...but its still so early its hard to be sure. The new growth is flat agaisnt the PB yet but even if its just a new lead I will be happy!
It usually dosent make a new growth at this time of year so I am hopefull this is a spike!

I have a Phaius tankervilliae.
my spathoglotthis plicata has some growth i wonder if it may be a new division or a spike.
I saw a Phaius at the Brooklyn botanic garden . quite large in a big pot.
there was nearby a Spathoglottis in bloom and it was in a semi shade area in the conservatory. under some tree/ large plant leaves. I thought it needed more light.
if you take photos shoot both the detail and the whole plant!
I cringe when i just see a photo of the flower and you can't see the context, how large the plant, where on a shelf or windowsill, distance from lights. It always good to tell a story with photos!

well not so sure its a spike but still have leaf bases splitting open and new growths coming on and roots popping out evrywhere .
still a couple of spots split open that I cant tell what they are yet and since i have no exp with it spiking dont quite know what it would look like.
But I am happy with the way its coming along anyways the best it has grown since I got it.Higher light and more water this fall than previous years so I may figure this one out soon,

well it seemed to stall for a month but it has a spike for sure. Its not growing very fast but it is large enough to tell that its a spike now.
