Dactylorhiza praetermissa ssp. majalis...an easy hardy terrestrial
There has been a thread on bog orchids so I thought I'd share this pic of one of the easiest 'bog' orchids to grow in the garden. This is a European orchid called the Southern Marsh Orchid. It grows easily in regular garden soil as long as it is not too dry. The foliage is attractively spotted ad looks good even before the plant blooms. It is hardy to at least zone 5. Give it well-drained, yet organically rich soil and it will thrive.

Nice picture of this one. I might end up ordering one from a hardy orchid supplier who also just happens to have ladyslippers too.

I love the ladyslippers! Now that I've moved I'm definitely going to have to add those to my garden. Thanks for reminding me!
