There were 5 or 6 clusters of buds before the crazy winter weather started happening. Most of them blasted but the cluster that includes this bloom and one other did survive

Sue, at least you have a whole cluster!
I wouldn't mind seeing any more pics of other blooms from the cluster If you manage to get some pics seeing the 'short life'of the flower..
& I'm sure you'll manage to beat the weather
next time round & you'll have even more clusters & blooms !!!!

Dear Susanne,

Your plant is correctly Vanilla grandiflora, long confused with V. pompona. The true V. pompona is a rare species from the Chiapas/Guatemala border that has never been in cultivation.

That's gorgeous, Sue! How long did it take your plant to bloom? I have a cutting that just sent up a new vine a couple months ago...I'm wondering if I'll be waiting a few months or a few years before I see any flowers...
