Ludisia discolor propagation
Default Ludisia discolor propagation

Hello. I have a creepy, leggy Ludisia. It's a lovely plant, but it's getting hard to manage. I would like to shorten the length of the branches and re-pot, maybe dividing the single plant into three.

When I've done this in the past, I simply cut the leafy ends off the long stems, let them dry for a few days and then potted them. Astonishingly, the cut stems threw new branches and the re-potted leafy ends mostly rooted.

Now that I am older and wiser about many things (including orchids) I believe that this can't possibly be the right way to propagate Ludisias. In fact, I think that I am darn lucky to still have any Ludisias at all.

What is the proper way to do this?

Just like you did before - with cuttings. I do it all the time with most of my Jewells.

I've stuck pieces of mine in water and potted up once roots formed. don't know that there's a right or wrong way. Works for me and I've never lost a cutting.
