Jewel Orchids
Does anyone keep these? What are they like, what do they like, and how nice are the flowers? Are they really good at being vivarium plants?

Jewel Orchids
I have one. I had a hard time with it at first but now I keep it in regular potting soil and near my pond in the water fall. So it's feet are a little wet all the time and he gets a shower every day. Now it has new shoots and is doing very well. The flowers are not that interesting to me. I think the looks of the plant is the attraction. Barb

Yes. Boring flowers, beautiful leaves. Yes. This is a great foliage/ground cover for a bog or dart frog vivarium. Blackjungle, sells these and they are great for terrarium culture.[/quote]

Jewel Orchids
I guess everyone needs the right little niche in the world. I tried for years to keep mine with all the regular plants. It was just never happy. I would move it around over the years until I found this little spot. When it fills the pot I will, snip snip, and ad some to my viv. Barb

jewel orchids
I have a ludisia discolour, a goodyera hispida and a macodes sanderiana. I love the beautiful leaves! I have them in individual terraniums - so far, so good. Any growing tips?

terrarium
I'd like to put my jewel orchids in a terrarium. I am a total novice - any advice? I am having a hard time finding a terrarium. Do you know of any Canadian suppliers?

Maria,
If you have an old fish aquarium laying around somewhere it is usually a good start. You will just have to make a lid for it out of glass or another material to hold the mositure in. The local Loews or HD will have glass cutting centers. Make sure to use "inside" measurements so that it fits snug.
Best,
Justin

Hi Maria,
Check the Bargain Finder - you can find some really good, gently used aquariums for a great price. They might even come with a sliding glass lid! The new issue comes out on Thursday.
But wait........ I just discovered that you can also search online for one!
