Default Trichopilia tortilis

Is anybody here growing this? I'm considering getting it, think it would grow well in this Fla. weather. There's a lot of info on the web but I'd rather learn first hand from sombody here what they know/experience with this orchid.

Anybody?

Here's a pic from off the web...

Sandy, I posted very recently asking for culture advice for Trichopilia as I wasn't able to find anything on the web. Can you tell me, please, at what site you found it? Thanks!

Shirley, have you tried this site yet?

Orchid Culture - Charles and Margaret Baker

You have to pay $1 per sheet; however, there's a wealth of information with each sheet and for $10 you can actually get 12 sheets instead of 10 (they provide 2 bonus sheets). There are also a number of free sample sheets to give you an idea of what you're buying. Good luck.

Steve

Shirley, after posting this question, I did a search here on the board and found these 2 threads. I'm hoping some members chime in with their advice.

And here's some of what I found on the web:

Hi Sandy

According to Orchidwiz, grow this one shady with very diffused filtered light. It's susceptible to sunburn so no direct light at all. Strong air movement. Summer day temps average 75F and nights are 58 with a diurnal range of 17 degrees. 85-90% humidity most of the year but down to 70% late winter/early spring. Gets a slight rest in winter, reduced water and reduced or eliminate fertilizers until heavier watering in spring is resumed.

Between shopping for orchids on the web (for Trichopilia tortilis and maybe the Haraella retrocalla...I saw Ramon's and I fell in love) and checking out the latest posts here, I forgot about this.

Thank you for this great info Susanne!

Shirley, have you decided which vendor to get yours from?

Sandy, Got my plant about two weeks ago from Orchids Limited. It's a hybrid so I hope it will be easier to grow than the other two that I tried. I need to repot it and wanted to know what other growers consider to be the best medium for Trichopilias.
