Man! I'd love to find wild orchids on one of my long walks! Only thing is...I'd have to start walking first, right?

Very nice, Wendy. I think our native orchids (bought) in our garden didn't live a third season because there wasn't enough water to see them through...next time, that is, if there IS a next time, I will give them lots of water. They were doing so well, and I had pics in my mind of them carpeting our garden with their beauty.
Here, t's been a very dry winter.

Everyone just remember, if it were that easy growing native orchids by leaving them on their own, orchids would be much more abundent. They require just as much care (well most do) in your garden as exotics do in your greenhouse or homes.

I did look after them, even more so than the other garden plants. They were in a special place in our flower garden (not left in a field ).
We were away often, and they just didn't get the care they deserved. I've asked my husband a few times to have an unground watering system, but so far, nada.

I enjoyed seeing them so much that Hubby and I booked 'our' cottage for the first week of June this year. Usually we don't go until late August but the orchids will be all done by then....and I want to see them again.

I just got a job at New England Wild Flower Society and am looking forward to NOT missing the Cyps blooming this year! I figure if I'm on the property every day, I can't miss them, right?
