Tiny plant - Ceratochilus biglandulous

With a quarter to compare size.


I know I can't keep this alive mounted with my other plants. I don't do well with mounted plants. Now What. Do I plant it in a tiny pot with spag? Any suggestions.

Where did you get it from? Most orchids don't have to be mounted to do well. Did you try to look up any info on the web? I personally don't know anything about it but it is a cute little bugger. I have a hard time with the tiny ones as they require too much attention. Good luck.

I wouldn't pot this guy. It doesn't look like it has roots.

Ceratochilus biglandulosus is a vandaceous plant (belongs in the Vanda Alliance). Roots should be big and sprawling everywhere.

Roots may have rotted out because of that moss. Try growing on a tree fern mount without moss. Water often. Grow in bright shade. It's an intermediate to warm grower.

Can you exchange this plant for another plant of the same species?

I found very little information of this one but this give some hints

"Plants are best grown mounted and require shade with intermediate to warm temperatures. Plants should be watered frequently. Plants can also be grown in media that is well drained such as tree fern fibers or sphagnum moss."

It do not have roots like a Vanda and the plants I have seen IRL has been mounted on three fern.

Thanks, Magnus. I have a tiny 2" Erin pot so I just took the plant, as it was on the stick, and laid it on top of very loose spag and Prine Agra mix in the pot. So far it hasn't missed a beat. We will see what it looks like in 6 weeks. I hope he lives because I love that little guy.

It is in a spot where you can water/mist it daily? What I read was cool to warm temperatures, regular watering year round. 3000-4500 fc light diffused/filtered, strong air movement, 70-80% humidity summer/early autumn, 50-60% winter/early spring. It gets heavy rainfall except 2-3 months in the winter. Water it while it is actively growing. You need excellent drainage. Roots should not be stale or soggy. Hope that helps.
