ID, Calanthe or not?

A friend gave me these pseudobulbs eight months ago as he has many but doesn't know the name. They did nothing for several months then all of sudden new growth, seven at that. And large pseudo on the left has new growth coming on the top. Can anyone identify? If so, how should it be grown? Looks like the medium is fairly small almost terrestrial like. Also see some brown developing on new growth....too much water, not enough light or other?

Looks like Calanthe vestita (I think thats the right spelling),or one of its hybrids.
Grow it like an Amaryllis:Regular food and water, and good light while growing,and dry and cooler when dormant.

Definitely a Calanthe. What gives it away is the membrane that covers the older pseudobulbs.

Yes, they are terrestrials. Different species different temperature requirements. Since I don't know the species I can't tell you the temperature range to grow in. But most are tropical lowland species.

They do have a dormant period, usually around winter. Older pseudobulbs go deciduous when entering dormancy.

Lighting should be shade to bright shade.

I´d say Calanthe vestita or rosea. Vestita is more common. Easy growers. When in growth, grow it warm, until november. They are content with all kind of mixture of bark, sand, perlite, moss, peat, seramis. When roots are develloped, a fertilizer is helpful. Protect leaves from direct sun. Then keep a cold to intermediate winter rest with less water. Will bloom in february. After flowering I repot every year.
