Jewel Orchids in high humidity and wet environment
Default Jewel Orchids in high humidity and wet environment

I want a few Jewel orchids in the bottom of this cool growers cabinet. They'll be in a fairly consistent 19-23c environment with 70-95% humidity. This Ludisia Discolour is doing things, and all 3 cuttings were a bit 'eh' before moving them in here, but the leaves they did have have dropped. However, they didn't have any new growth.

Before I put any jewels in there, I want to be sure they don't rot due to the regular spraying. There's a thin layer of moss on top, with a good layer of leca below. The moss never even gets close to drying.

Any thoughts if I should put Masdevallia in the bottom instead, as I wonder if they would do better? Or any other creeping habit orchid?

Jewel orchids don't like staying wet. They often rot kept like that. Lightly and evenly moist is best.

Any other recommendations? I was looking at Neolauchea Pulchella but it seems it prefers a very airy mix that I'm not sure would fair well. I can make it pure leca, but sometimes leca can be quite rough and damage the roots with some alliances, in my experience.

I don't think Neolauchea (Isabelia) pulchella would do well in a pot, at least not for very long. It rambles all over the place, so does well mounted (like on tree fern) It tends to grow off the mount, and is very happy with roots in the air. Can turn into a rather substantial clump.

In a cool, humid environment, high-elevation Papua New Guinea Dendrobiums (like cuthbertsonii, vexillarius, phlox, and a bunch of others), should be very happy.
