When they go dormant you can move them out of your lighted area, since they don't have any leaves. Save the prime real estate for things that are producing. Mine live outside, I don't give them any special treatment - they get watered (rain or sprinklers) and it doesn't matter. You can put them someplace where they can be cool (window, laundary room, porch). They can tolerate light frost easily, I don't know how cold they can go but they certainly can take significant cold.
Plant Delights Nursery lists tham as hardy to USDA zone 6b. Which is really cold. So I think just put the pots out on porch or balcony and forget about them until spring.
