Spike or leaf?? Ceolgyne
Hey all, after having my coelegyne seedling since june that the only thing that I could see it doing was putting out a few new roots It has started new growths. Im thinking that these are spikes although It shouldnt this early in the game. Anyways It is in a 3 in pot kin sphagum, bark and perlite which I am planning to convert over to lava rocks. I have about 6 new growths and I have heard that these guys are super-fast growers and get quite big as far as roots. I know most people would recommend growing on a slab but it is quite hot here and I could not provide it with sufficient water without becoming dehydrated. I started using rock wool to my lava rocks for both water retention and wicking abilities but cant tell of any difference yet. I have some Phals froing in lava rocks which are doing really well, some with rock wool some without. I think its the amount of pore space and the humidity that can be provided with lava rocks rather than any water retention properties. However everyone has there own different experiences with each media. I have a pic below its in sphagnum, bark perlite mix right now. I live in Western Tennesse where temps have finally broken into the 80's and out of the upper 90s. These have been kept between greenhouse and/or house depending how hot it gets. Right now its been in house. I mist them twice a day, water twice a week right now. Any suggestions if these are new Leafs or flower spikes?
