Jumped the Gun on European Terrestrials: Ophrys and Orchis

So, recently found a vendor that grows a bunch of interesting terrestrials, mostly stuff native to Japan. Ordered a number of bulbs/plants that will be here in March. This is all good, perfect time to potting them up as they start their season.

What's not so good? I got a little over eager thinking about what we might want for our backyard, and ordered a number of Euro terrestrials- mostly Ophrys and Orchis ssp. These guys will also be here in 4-6 weeks. They're coming from Europe and I realized... this is terrible timing. I've done my research and know that many of them have short seasons. Any advice on what to do with them when they arrive, given the inopportune timing?

I wouldn't worry too much. I used to live in a place where there are lots of these orchids, and they usually don't show up before March and don't bloom until April/May, sometimes still growing and flowering in summer.

Roberta grows fantastic Mediterranean orchids in pots, her advice is probably the one you want.

As soons as you get them, pot them and give them plenty of water. As Mediterranean plants, they get all the rain during winter and spring.
