Yeah, I tried getting some vanilla beans from my plants years ago. It was kind of a pain, putting them in the sun during the day, making sure they don't get rained on, putting them in a warm humid spot for the night, repeat for a few weeks and in the end I got sort of vanilla scented beans but with an off vegetal flavor/scent. The only way I'd try that process again is if I was going to try and do it commercially.
