First Ophrys of the year!

I've been wanting to try some of the Mediterranean-climate Aussie orchids but didn't know where to find them. I grow a lot of bulbs from the southwest of Africa, where there is a similar climate. I bring them into the house for the summer and store them in boxes in closets. We have occasional summer rain. This is OK for some of these bulbs, but not for others.

Roberta, you've probably been there - but if they hold it this year, and you go to the University of California at Irvine Bulb Fall Festival, you can see a lot of these flowering.

Nice! Just checked, and it is on the schedule. So I'm in luck... at least so far. Haven't attended before. Practically in my back yard.

A friend of mine has the required import permit, so he places a group order with myorchids.de ... I don't think that its difficult or expensive to get the permit for small quantities of plants, it is needed, though. But that's where I get the Australian terrestrials. Also nice, since Dr. Beyrle propagates these in Germany, so they are already on "northern hemisphere time".

Awesome. Yeah i grow a fairly wide range of Australian terrestrials including Thelymitra and Diuris. Thanks a lot for the info, I think i should be able to manage now!
