Default chiloschista usneoides - cool leafless orchid - new growth

This guy is new to me and has been pretty healthy but not really growing for a few months. I sprayed her as usual tonight and then set her to soak in her humidity tub and watered the rest of the mounts....when I took her out of the tray I noticed this bright new root right at the crown. I don’t think they necessary bloom from the new root but it certainly is a good sign. I will be moving it into a sunnier spot and adding some moss over it soon so it can get more light but still be covered.

Fun little species

That is a "cool" little orchid, and looks very healthy. Can you fill us in with your growing specifics? Thanks for sharing.

Wisdom- it is mounted on a small bit of cork and I keep it hung on on my shelf in the back of my covered patio.
I have it suspended over a small Tupperware so that 1) it is always over water and getting more humidity, and 2) it catches the spray since this guy gets watered at least daily

I’d estimate that it gets 1-3 hours of 80% morning sun and then darkening shade for the rest of the day. I have a bunch of phals and all my “recovery” plants in this area.

About once a week I will take it down and soak it in the water dish immersed for the time it takes to water the rest of the plants.

My work schedule has forced me to adapt my growing to do a lot of watering at night. As a result I have to use mounts and really open mixes until I see the the plant is too dry and then I add more medium that retains until the plant is happy. This method allows me the luxury of watering freely at my schedule with little concern about rot

I also have two fans that run all the time on the patio so it is never stale.

Before paring down First Rays, I used to get those in quite a bit. I grew them in my "incubator", kept fairly close the the LEDs, hot, and frequently dripping wet.

They grew and bloomed well under those conditions.

Awesome Ray, so you think they would enjoy me moving them to a more exposed location with some moss?

Without direct observation, I cannot say, but the baker's culture sheet suggests it likes it in bright, filtered sun with no direct sunlight.

It also says I was growing them way too warm...
