1 teaspoon per gallon of a 20%N fertilizer is about 265 ppm N - hardly "weak". For weekly feeding, I use about 1/3 that amount on all my plants, but spathoglottis might handle that well when in active growth.
I looked back at my notes, and had some that did well in a blend of 50% peat-based "potting soil" cut with medium bark and perlite - again, moisture-retentive like sphagnum.
I suspect your primary issue was overheating from the southern exposure.
