Dend carronii
This is one of my few true minis. I was at H&R yesterday (as I always am when the catalog comes out!!) and I was blown away by what a cool little plant this was. The flowers are bright and I'm going to try to cross this with my Dend atroviolacium and Dend johnsoniae when it blooms this week. Unfortunately, Roy Tokunaga (the "R" of H&R) said it probably wouldn't "take" because the sections of the these plants are too far apart but that I should try anyway! We'll see! Maybe I'll have the first cross between these guys. Who knows. This guys is so small (as you can see by the pen reference pic) that my little point and shoot camera found it almost impossible to focus in on such a small target when I was zooming in. I got a few good ones though!

This was some time ago, but I don't believe the cross worked.
I've got another caronnii in spike right now that I might cross with another antelope type though.

That's nice. Always on the lookout for tiny Dends.
Any rest period for this one?

I think you managed to dig up my oldest carronii thread!
I've got one now that is just starting to spike. The dormancy is long and harsh. I'll stop watering in a week or two and won't give it anything until new growth early next summer.

THat is long and harsh. I'm always on the lookout for little Dends that don't require rest periods so I can stuff them into my terrariums where they would receive the same conditions year round.

Yep, this is definitely not terrarium material. I had two same sized plants from the same vendor that I had grown for over year side by side. The only difference between the two is that one was in a 1" clay pot and one was in a 1" plastic pot. The plastic potted plant would stay slightly wetter for slightly longer and died. This is during the hot Texas summer! They want to dry off nearly instantly; much like Tolumnia, but even more so.

Oh, so THAT'S why I couldn't grow Tolumnias.
