I see Andy's has the parvulum, not on sale tho. I love his plants. They are always such nice, full healthy plants. I need to hold off a bit myself, lol. Love your lantern.

Oh, I did notice his isn't blue. Is the blue hard to find? I've seen pictures of it and the blue is beautiful, really a nice color.

Patty Andy doesn't have parvulum (even he states he does!). He has Dendrobium delicatulum white var. huliorum. It is much bigger than parvulum blue, has green pseudobulbs (where parvulum blue has reddish pseudobulbs) and is fairly comon, also much cheaper. He actually did not even own any true parvulum blue till last year when he got his from Alex Popow :-) The real Dendrobium parvulum blue (or violet blue) is pretty rare, especially in the USA, and they are very pricy!

Just to show the example, first picture shows Andy's delicatulum huliorum, much bigger than parvulum blue, white blooms, green pseudobulbs, other two pictures show my parvulum blue when in bloom last year, much smaller, reddish pseudobulbs.

The blue is hard to find in the U.S. at least.
I'm not sure about in other areas.
I know there's at least one vendor in Europe who carries it.

Thank you for the photo comparisons!I was reading alot about the differences, but photos are much better.
Would you say there's a possible range of colour for the blue? Different clones perhaps?
Or are the photos online really doctored?
They seem to run the gambit from sky blue, to a lavender.
In one thread I saw a very sky blue. In your photo its a beautiful periwinkle.
And yesterday I saw photos where it was distinctly lavender. A light amethyst colour.
If it comes in a range of colours I think I'll feel compelled to own all of them.
Or perhaps some species confusion is happening.
It's not an easy orchid to get solid info on lol.

I think color can vary from blue to violet. Also, some pictures under parvulum blue are not actually parvulum blue but Dendrobium putnamii, which has similar blooms, but different species (this one is EXTREMELY hard to find).

I'm excited to see what end of the spectrum mine ends on. I hope it looks close to yours
I'd be really interested in owning the different colour forms.

Now, what exactly differentiates putnamii and parvulum?
I think I can spot the differences in photos, but I'm not even sure if the photos are labeled right.

Thank you Tommy for clarifying the two for me. Your pictures really show the difference! Your plant is beautiful as expected, you are both luck to have them in your collections. I love this bloom color. Sweet little orchid.

Ordphien, putnamii has different shape of the bloom, much wider, it comes from higher elevations, it's cold growing where parvulum comes from lower elevations of PNG and is more intermediate to warm growing. Parvulum blue is not so wide. Putnamii in situ grows in deep shade forests as epiphyte & lithophyte, parvulum grows as epiphyte in more light. That's pretty much what I know. Once I have putnamii, I'll let you know difference :-)
