Your health comes first and hope you're mending! Of course you see the mistakes...I can only still see a beautiful planet of awesomeness! Happy Holidays!

Agreed, health comes first, and from experience, there is NEVER anyone who will take care of your chids like you do!!! It may be sad, but at least, most survived. Hey, after all they went through in past 6 months, these will be one of a hell tough cookies to break!!! :-) I use only very weak fertilizing mix for all miniatures due to the moss, mos hates fertilizing. To answer your previous question - YES, astrophora DOES PRODUCE keikis on the top of the leaves! So you may have few babies every year, and they do establish easily when potted in tiny 1" pot in sphagnum, in some 6 months you can have many new plants, blooming size!

Thanks...
The biggest thing is the rootless haraellas. I'm hoping the humidity keeps them alive till they grow new roots.
The spikes on the lepanthes also made me sad lol.
Happy holidays!

My fever was incredibly high. So I honestly might've deliriously spewed out incorrect dosage info.
I dunno....
Either way I'll need to move forward.
The moss is perking back up!

The lepanthopsis didn't miss a beat! The keiki and all the flowers are going strong. With proper humidity it's a very forgiving orchid.

Yes, Lepanthopsis takes really "huge" abuse, not that I ever tested it, but I know people that over water this one, and it does not mind it, people that kept it dry for 2 weeks and it did not mind, i sent one as a gift, traveled in the box for 10 days, all perfect when received :-)

Wow! What a beautiful habitat you've created there. You've had some amazing blooms even with all the downfalls. All we can do is learn from our (and others) mistakes when something goes awry and it looks like you do. Just give them some love and I'm sure they'll keep coming back. Well done and thanks for sharing the beauty with us.

An update.

The lepanthopsis is putting out its last buds. What a show it was.

The Pluerothallis leptotifolia is finally showing some signs of life. Two small growths near the rock.

One haraella is putting out a leaf for no real reason. It has no roots from the fertiliser incident.

All the plants look a little too yellow.
I've upped my fertiliser regime. But I also replaced the light.
I'm not sure, but I think that this bulb is too strong.
The leaves the lepanthes grew with this bulb are lime green with a strong red blush. And are about half the size of the ones with the previous light.

Speaking of lepanthes. I have a big issue with mine other than the leaves.
The spikes. The same issue keeps popping up and its ruining my blooms.
I'm wondering if its something in my culture.
In this picture I have a mature spike, and new one. You'll notice the same issue.
It grows two buds at near the same time, they end up sticking or fusing together. And then the biggest bud aborts halfway through opening, which causes the other bud to abort.
And then I get no blooms.

The moss is coming back.

I have three kinds now.
This one is very slow but my favorite.

This picture shows the other two kinds.
Near the top you'll see a patch that looks finer and more fern like than the rest.

Ordphien, I love this project!! I shared it with my family, and I got a similar lantern for Christmas I have a Haraella that I bought to put in it, and I hope one day it can look as amazing as yours!

I did have a few questions--do you have any air flow in this lantern? Mine has an opening at the top similar to yours, but I was just wondering if it would be enough. Also, what has your experience been with lava rock vs. cork for mounting? I LOVE the lava rock you used in this one, but the Petco stores around here are very limited and don't carry them. It would actually cost more to ship it than to buy it

Thanks so much for sharing this amazing project! Best of luck for 2015!
