Default Psygmorchis pusilla

I bought this little fellow off eBay in July 2013. It was just finishing flowering when I got it, and sat more or less dormant for a few months whilst it adjusted to my glasshouse.

In the last three months it has taken right off!. Just as our summer started to ease it threw out two spikes, and when they were about half-way out it threw out another 2 spikes. The first two spikes have just bloomed in the last few days, and at least two more to come. An absolute cracker of a miniature, and one of my favourite species of all time. Just a joy to own, and pretty tolerant of a wide range of setups in my experience.

Taken last week, just as the buds were about to open. Shows the other two spikes growing making 4 in total

A shot of the open flowers.

The best close up I could get of the flower. It's a poor quality photo - but the best I could manage with my phones' camera and the tiny blossoms.

I grow this Psygmorchis in my glasshouse, mounted, up with my vandas. It gets very high light, (it's roughly 20 centimetres from the glass), warm-to-hot temps, 80-90% humidity, and water once a day in spring/autumn, and twice a day in summer. Very weak fertiliser every other watering.

Do you still have your Psygmorchis pusilla? Mine bloomed today for the first time. Had this since last fall. Anyone know how often these bloom?

I have one of these. I had mine in complete shade because I read that they often grow on Theobroma cacao which is an understory rainforest tree (or grows in plantations, not shaded). I just moved mine to more light so hopefully, now, it will think about blooming. I have heard they can be in bloom constantly and the one I had many years ago seemed to always be in bloom (I think I gave that one Cattleya light).

I have mine in Vanda light, just slightly less than catt light. It is a fun little orchid.
