Default Lepanthopsis astrophora 'Stalky'

Ok, with all the posts of this little gem I had to share my own. Just got this chid October of this year. Right after it arrived it shot out 7 spikes, all of which blasted but one, but after it adjusted to its new home 5 more spikes came right out. You may notice that some of the petals are very pale. Those flowers opened while I was away for Thanksgiving break and had the curtains closed and the light in the tank I keep it in was off. I think it's kind of neat, but I'm happy to see the regular dark purple ones too.

Thank you jropad, Kim, and Kevin. This tiny guy is hard to photograph up close, but very rewarding to grow. I'm not satisfied with the macro capabilities of my camera, but thank you for the compliment.

Thanks Joann. This is nothing. Other OB members have posted this orchid with 10 or 20 spikes. It can be a truly spectacular mini.

I received a CCM/AOS on this plant in 1987 and it had 650 flowers and 70 buds on 70 inflorescences but mine was put to shame by another with 706 flowers and 880 buds on 141 inflorescences.

I still remember feeling pity for the poor student judge who had to count all the flowers and buds on mine and how much ribbing he took.

The plant's clonal name, by the way, was given by Phil and Anne Jessup and is the nickname of G.C.K. Dunsterville, the man who did so much work on the orchids of Venezuela and also of his father. The nickname is immortalized in Rudyard Kipling's Stalky & Co., a book about his school days with L.C. Dunsterville, who is the model for the character, Stalky, in the book.
