A couple of Restrepias

The first is a primary hybrid, Restrepia (elegans x dodsonii) 'Tiny Tot', which is a nice little spotted flower; the second is a species, Restrepia striata; as the name implies, the flower is striped.
Restrepia flowes are so delicate it is easy to miss them; both of these have been flowering fairly continuously, with a dozen or more flowers at a time.
A plant almost small enough to wear!

This species is often sold under the name of Restrepia brachypus but from time to time you do see it listed as Restrepia striata. I list them separately however, they are the same species. One thing you might want to check which is difficult to do with a photo is to measure the labellum on your plant. Restrepia brachypus/striata is often confused with Restrepia trichoglossa. They are very much the same apart from the size of the labellum on Restrepia trichoglossa which should measure less than 2mm wide and will have more warts on the labellum than brachypus/striata. If your plants labellum is over 2mm wide and not so warty then your label of Restrepia striata/brachypus is correct.

Well done on flowering my favourite orchid genus.

I appreciate the information, and I do like to have my plants ID'd correctly. However, once we get out of the typical orchid flower, I'm a little lost - is the labellum the larger, spatula-shaped part at the bottom (in this case, the striped part)? Or the top? Or - the smaller kind of pointy tongue-shaped part the sticks out slightly above the striped largest part?
Ah, so many questions! And I have to say, this is the first time I've been asked to measure my labellum; I'm sure I will enjoy it way more than I should!

OK, I know this is a really really old post, but I've just come accross it and want to say how much I like these cuties.

I've just bought a second Restrepia after my first one seems to be doing OK (new growths and new flower) so these ones are going on my wish-list.
