Default Gastrochilus japonicus in flower

When I bought the summer project plant I got a Gastrochilus japonicus as the travelling companion. It was the runner up in the project vote and I decided I really wanted it.

Anyway... it's flowered

The 'lip' has both a pouch and a lip coming off the outer edge of it. The first pic shows the spotting inside the pouch which I've not seen in other pictures online before. It also has the odd spot on the green petals/sepals.

These pictures were taken last week and it's now fully opened. It's such a cutie!

WOW! that's very cool!
I got one too as a Tc mine has flowered before but has only put out a new leaf since I have had it.
Can you post some more photos in full flower please?
Your plant is gorgeous and has many more roots than mine.

Cool that you got one as a TC too, so did Camille.

I'll try and get some more shots, but it's not that much different, just a few more of the flowers which are semi-open in the above pics are open. It has seven flowers on a very short little spike held below the leaves.

Is yours mounted or potted?

Thanks everyone

Not detected a scent. I thought I had the other day but I had put it down near the scented Miltoniopsis and turned out to be that.

I've been suprised how well this has done for me as I was a little unsure about it. I have it hanging over the outside of a large plant pot in the bathroom (a large 'jade' plant inside the pot). It gets the light from the window close by which is direct in the afternoon but comes through frosted glass.

I dunk it daily in the sink. Since the flowers have been open I've been careful to not dunk the flowers.

It's grown roots (although they were good to begin with) a leaf has fully grown and another has started and it's grown and open these flowers.

I should admit that it had a tiny spike when I bought it, but the spike has grown, produced the buds and opened under my care... so I'm taking at least some of the credit

Great blooms, I'm jealous! And nice photos too. No spike on mine, but it's been happily growing since I got it. All of the roots have green growing tips, there's a brand new root growing like a weed, and the new leaf is growing fast.

Sounds like we have an EU gastrochilus project going on! Nenella, where did you get yours?
