A real beauty! Great job getting this to flower.

Thank you all!

From what I understand, this particular species is the easiest of the Chinese Cypripediums.

It's probably even easier to grow than many of the American and European Cyps from what I gather.

This was a total cake walk, thanks to the help of Joe!

That's a cute li'l plant, King. Cyps are awesome plants, but I'm kinda afraid to even lay a finger on them.

Yeah...

I don't blame you.

This was actually my test pilot species. It was also not my first choice in a purchase, but rather a replacement choice because the seller didn't have the original plant I wanted available.

I really want to get Cyp californicum, Cyp reginae, and Cyp henryi. Maybe Cyp. flavum, and Cyp. formosanum or Cyp. japonicum in the future.

But...

The problem is I don't have a refrigerator to pull them through the winters.

I'm planning on saving up for a small fridge that's about 4.4 cu ft, so my current choices in plants are limited. Which also limits the size of the plants I can take on as well.

Not to mention, they're also mad expensive.

So, I'll just settle on a few rather than all of them.

From what I understand. I might have problems with some species in the list, such as Cyp. reginae and Cyp flavum.

Cyp plectrochilum also happens to be a mid elevation plant (1,900 m to 2,500 m if I'm not mistaken), versus a nosebleed high elevation plant from China.

I really love that.

I want to get one or two myself but getting them cold enough in the winter is a concern. We get quite cold winters so I may be alright but as you say they are expensive so I've not dared try yet.

Really nice to see your sucess.

There are tons of people in the UK who grow all sorts of Cyps very successfully. Check out this forum:

Scottish Rock Garden Club Forum - Index

There are a number of members from England, Scotland and Wales in zones 7-8 that post pictures and cultural info on here.
