The word mini means whatever the user wants it to mean. It has no specific meaning in the orchid trade.

I said it may stay under 12 inches but to me a true miniature is under 3 inches and there are many. I have some that are 6 years old and still under 3 inches.

I had 400 Phal Bladan's Kaleidoscope this year and 250 bloomed and would look the same size next to your plant. Next year they will have 2 foot spikes and the year after larger again.

The fact that it was a NoId from Lowe's gives me a strong indication of whose plants they were. The plants sent to Lowe's are hybrids that may never be reproduced again. It is the way big Phal growers try new crosses and get rid of the excess they do not want to reproduce.

True miniatures are expensve to grow because they are so small. They are not usually dumped to big box stores.

The white you have in the background could be one of dozens that were made for this year. Many have spikes to four feet and flowers 5 inches across even those yours is a medium size.

I am sorry if you were disturbed by my comment. I only wanted to point out you can not assume a characteristic of a NoId plant. You can only buy a NoId if you like how it looks with the understanding especially with Phals that it may not look the same next year.

This is especially true of Phals which when seed crossed can take the characteristics of any plant in its family tree.

Because it was Lowe's it is unlikely that it is a clone, which are more xpensive to make.

actually i do think it might be a clone.there are alot of box store phals that are clones.(this one had a sister plant in same pot not connected seperate but same identical bloom color and pattern.). makes it easier to crank out orchids that are the same for looks and sale. but anyhow not disturbed what you said. the white phal tho not a mini is small and is over 5 years old. so its not any of this or last years get. lol.i just held the "mini" up to it for size comparison.. to me mini means smaller than the normal size.

I think its very pretty, I also think it may be a cross with Golden Peoker. Flower form and size look alot like mine, but the color is different from mine. here's picture of flowers from last year (golden peoker x doritis pulcherrima) the plant.. in maybe 2 inch to 3 inch clay pot. It is still this size, it is a miniature, and sometimes the big box stores will get nice plants at CHEAP prices because the tags have got lost.

The definitive answer is that it is pretty and makes you happy. Nothing else is important.

I have some (that came from the big box store suppliers) and it is the same color and shape as yours and three feet high.

Phearamedusa

the doritis pulcherrima in your hybrid is a true miniature seldom getting over 3-4 inches with flowers about 1 inch. Peoker is a large phal with purple striping or spots. The hybrid seems to have taken a smaller size and its color from the Doritis pulcherrima, so the grower got probably half the characteristics for which he was hoping.

I had no idea that peoker was a large phal.,so thanks for the info. I got it, cause it was small and I liked the flowers.
