A gem I found at the Bangkok weekend markets a few days back. Coelogyne Shilleriana. I pollinated both flowers, looking good so far.

I went to another market tonight and saw boxes full of this species. All pillaged from the forest. CITES, I have not much to say about that other than it doesnt stop local markets. It only limits international trade.

The plant I bought was from a reputable nursery that has a stall at JJ market, but looking at it now, I wonder where they got it. This species is fairly easy to get here in Bangkok at the moment it seems.

My aim is to get this plant to pod and flask the seed. So far the flowers have collapsed 3 days after pollination and there is distinct swelling. Fingers crossed. I hope to be able to take it back to Australia that way and share it around people I know there.

Looks like a fairly small growing plant. If so that's always a plus.

It is the size of Pleione Formosana. Nice an complact. Just what I want to fill my wardian case with in the future. Considering it will be 190cm long, by 90cm tall and 75cm from to back, thats a lot to fill with small plants like this... All under T5

Thanks for posting this very attractive and promising little plant. Is it pleasantly fragrant?

Sadly it is not fragrant. I wish it was. Still, a well grown plant is soemthing to behold. Check this link http://www.eaorchids.com/photo/coelschilleriana.jpg

I managed to get some green pods of this delightful little coelogyne. I am getting dry seed on Sunday.

I have set two large mother flask of the green pod seed from two clones. I will see how this goes before I try the dry seed. I hope he dry seed is a good quantity, though it is a few years old.

I hope that the flasks of green seed germinate. If they do, maybe I can do some mini-flasks when they are ready. Better not count my chickens before they hatch though.

Still, this is a species I would like to be able to share.
