Wow, amazing. Costa Rica seems like a place of incredible biodiversity.
Would some of you know where I can acquire Lepanthes or other miniature seeds?

All the best
Math

Hi Math

Sorry to say I have had no luck finding a viable source of seeds or flasks. As a result, I am seeking to set my own seed pods. Maybe I will have some seed in the future, but that is some time away sadly. I believe in conservation through sharing. Maybe other members can help us with seed.

I can tell you though, my friend JMP says he uses half strength Sigma media to sow. Sorry I dont recall what type. He also uses a 40x magnification microscope to pollinate.

You can get plants from the following links and they will send to the USA. If you know someone there, maybe they can help you..Sorry I have no idea of your import rules in Canada. Check their websites.

Andy's Orchids has some, and I got my ovalis and manabina from them. I've been absolutely thrilled with both (and the haraella I got, too). My ovalis has 5 flowers open right now, and my manabina has many buds and one open flower.
Other US suppliers (within the US) are:
Tropical Orchid Farm Catalog
Pleurothallid Sales Plants
Other Pleurothallids: Mountain Orchids, Orchids & Plants for discriminating tastes.
J&L Orchids ~ All Other Pleurothallids
I haven't ordered from any of the others, though.

(I know you're in Canada... but thought I'd mention anyway)

My plants of Lepanthes Saltatrix X L. Calodictyon. I reflasked them this morning. My friend JMP sent them in a sterile vermiculite, agar, sugar mix in two tiny bottles

How old are those in flask? Im tempted to source some more of the species I have but from (hopefully) different bloodlines to make a couple populations. Or try calodictyon x tenticulata. I hope you can do some telipogonaflora pods, the world definitely needs more of them! Failed with mine this year, but next time Andrea comes (Feb.) Ill get a couple more and do a more intensive culture instead of sticking them up against the cool cell in the greenhouse.

I have to ask what is the driving force behind the crosses.Although his methods are amazing and very professional I just cant get past the fact that he is altering something that needs none.

Hi

I agree, hybridising them seems to be an odd thing to do given the wealth of variation in the species themselves.

However, I admit I would like to see some crosses such as L. Calodictyon x l. telipogoniflora to get bigger blooms with a varigated leaf. I may try it one day as both these species do very well for me. However, right now I want to get outcrosses on both species first. I will think about a cross later

I'd love to get more Lepanthes, but it is so hard to get Lepanthes send to Bangkok as most sellers need a huge order to make it worth their while it seems or cant do a CITES etc.
