Default Platystele vellota - Tiny flowers

Platystele vellota

This one is growing in a vivarium under 2 13W compact flourscent bulbs about 12" from the bulbs. It is packed in the corner of 2 pieces of driftwood with some sphagnum moss filler. It gets misted once a day and a good watering once a week, I think it would like more water than I'm giving it thou.

This one is being a real pain to photograph mainly due to the *redder* bulbs used on this vivarium. But is also in the back middle.....the camera is inside the tank right now . Well I've got the exposure times long enough I can't walk around anymore without blurry pictures .

Had to move the saltwater tanks lights over to get the flowers the proper color. Now I just need one in focus! Macro photography can be maddening at times.

To give some prospective of size the black thing I'm using to hold the flower up is a bread bag tie.

The 1st picture is more in focus while the 2nd picture is much closer to the actual flower colors. So blend them together .

Just measured the longest side of that group of flowers, the entire thing is under 1cm.

Hi, that is so cute! One trick I use is I put the macro on a timer and put my finger behind the flowers. This for some reason helps the camera focus on the flowers instead of something else in the background.
Also, do you have a pic of the entire plant?

The camera is on a tripod and I'm using manual focus most of the time with a remote timer. Short of pulling out the slide rail thats the best I could do. That thing is such a pain to use, I really need a better one.

I'll get a plant photo the next time I pull out the camera stuff, probably later today or tomorrow.

Cool, I have an automatic focus. That is a pain in the behind!

Not bad, thank you for showing this
Have it myself but thought I got the wrong plant as I ordered P. beatricis at the same time.
I had both in bloom but did not see any different, they are SMALL. I only photographed the beatricis as that put on a better show. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...beatricis.html
The difference is very small but the color on the sepals and petals is somewhat different, and maybe the tip of the lip also. Have to investigate my plants a little more......

RSS, I like you helthy looking plant! Good grown.

My pictures (of P. beatricis) are taken in full sun and I used reflectors to get an even better lightning of the flowers. I was a little unpatient and the focus is not as I wanted it. Take more pictures is my only advice and if you can set the White Balance on your camera you may find a settings for your light! Test test and test!
