I have always thought of it as a warmish grower. When bred with Den. cuthbertsonii, one gets Den Aussie's Hi-Lo, one of those Den cuthbertsonbii look-alikes that is forgiving of warmth. Baker gives its elevation range in Papua New Guinea and some of the nearby islands as 360-2300 m, which would imply that it can be happy under a wide range of temperatures.

Both that I have had, seem to prefer warmer weather, they look a bit unhappy (as in stop growth) during the coldest weather.

the laevifolium came from Golden Gate and most all he grows are in the cuthbert range of cool and wet. These are in the same range of temps to grow but They will tolerate over 75 and an occasional dry spell. They like bright light. Lots of humidity. They will grow right along with most Masdevallia leaning towards the cool to intermediate growers.

I'm not questioning how this beautiful specimen is grown but curious where your info comes from.
I was at a conference over the weekend. IOSPE shows it as warm to cold growing. I tried it three times here in my coolest room in summer, which is not that cool - lows would be upper 70s/low 80s F at night. I watered with rain, keeping it moist, and fertilized regularly. I kept the second and third inside a jar to increase humidity. None of the plants ever made a single new growth. They dropped leaves and growths, slowly dwindling away over 6-9 months. My experience tells me the temperatures were too high. If you look up threads here on OB, not many people are able to grow it.
