Neofinetia falcata with heavenly aroma!
Neofinetia falcata (according to Hausermann, but isn't Vanda the currently preferred genus?) which arrived a week ago with three fresh flowers and one bud.
There are two lessons I've learned firsthand about orchids. First, if the change is drastic, the buds'll get blasted. Number two: if it's been potted the roots are rotted.
Put these together and I have an orchid I desperately want to do root examination and doctoring on, but these flowers smell so good I want to keep smelling them every night. How'd I get in such good trouble? I got pink falcata also, which I'll put in another post, and it totally broke rule two. I think I cut maybe two of the innermost roots out of 20 which is excellent compared to others I've seen. They were also packed dry which I appreciate, but an earlier order from them was too wet, although Fedex had dunked the package into thawed seafood (poor recipients of that package, peee-ew!) and it soaked into some of the newspaper so it might not have been too bad if it didn't get that extra watering.
Sorry the picture is sideways, I even rotated it and uploaded again but I guess the message board is turning it landscape anyway, or maybe someone knows a way I can force it portrait?

Reason: Picture needs rotating - hmm seems it's the board doing it
