.....and a few other stragglers.
These are some minis that have been blooming over the summer. Several of these are from my Ecuagenra purchase (I’ll note which ones) back in January and have been growing in my terrariums. Some are doing great after getting established, and some seem to take one step forward and two steps back every other week. Still nice to see the blooms though. Thanks for looking!
Bulbophyllum fascinator v. semi-alba. I’ve had this for several years, divided last summer, and this is the first time IN THREE YEARS I have been able to keep the flies away from it long enough to take a picture. One of my favorite Bulbo flowers, it grows fairly compact (compared to some of my other Bulbos) and only has a light stink factor. Like I said though, the flies do love it
Masdevallia discoidea.
January import. My longtime favorite Masdie that I finally worked up the nerve and decided to try. Seems to be fairly tolerant of warmer temps. I had it in the terrarium (first pic) but now I’m trying it out under lights (second pic). It had out grown the terrarium in 3 months so that was the reason for the change. The tails are a little crimped (second pic) from being moved while in bud from the high humidity tank to the moderate humidity shelf, but it is still growing very, very vigorously and is still blooming. Also, I had no idea this was a sequentially bloomer. That’s a bonus.
Platystele umbellata.
I’ve had this one since last summer growing at the bottom of a deep vase on a windowsill before moving it to the terrarium in March. Grew well in both spots and I’m finally getting more than two or three spikes to open up at once. It’s a charming little thing and those flowers look like micro hoyas or berries
Schoenorchis scolopendria
This is a rehab case, I almost rotted the damn thing immediately after I bought it (winter/spring 2019, I think?). Only two buds for me this year, but it’s growing well outdoors and definitely not dead yet, nor headed in that direction. It grows surprisingly fast for being so small. Especially when compared to my other Schoenorchis species.
Scaphosepalum ovulare (at least I think that’s the name)
Part of my January import and this thing has not missed a beat. It’s been vigorously growing in the terrarium non stop and all of those spikes have developed in my care, 16 in total over the past 6-7 months. With it being a sequential bloomer, hopefully I’ll get some buds opening simultaneously soon.

January import. Same as above for the ovulare with a similar amount of spikes. I love how bright this one is
Pleurothallis grobyi
January import. This has grown very well in the tank and has been sending out 3-8 spikes once a month since April. I keep having a problem with the buds blasting at the last minute (grown with an average 95% humidity) but it’s getting better and is otherwise a very happy little ‘chid
Pleurothallis cypripedioides
January import. SUCH a fun little flower. This isn’t growing as vigorously as my others but it put out a few spikes and is doing pretty well. Love the Little Shop of Horrors/fuzzy toilet bowl look it’s got to it
Trisetella species
January import. I can’t remember which Trisetella species this was supposed to be but I know it was mislabeled (both of my Trisetellas were, actually). Still cute though and handled the import and rehab period very well. Nice little sequential bloomer.

January import. Growing the same as above. Still a nice little Trisetella even though I have no clue which one it is.
Stelis bivalvis
January import. Cute, tiny, has bloomed a few times, and has been growing well in the tank.
Masdevallia erinacea
January import and one that
I would LOVE some tips on. This is one of the “one step forward, two steps back” orchids. Literally, it puts out a new growth and two others die off. It has plenty of air movement and is growing with my other mounted Pleuro types. I’ve tried it with a it less air movement too. I’ve tried keeping it intermediate with the Trisetellas and also tried a bit warmer where it’s growing along side a very happy Dracula lotax. Not sure how to keep this healthy (I’m even considering potting it and putting under lights by the Masd. discoidea), but I have a second spike coming along now and it does keep putting out new growths...
And finally, Pteroceras semiteretifolium
Had this growing outdoors most of last year and it spiked but never developed (it was NBS when I bought it and still very young, also got a bit too dry that week). Stuck it in the terrarium simply because it looked like it would fit and it’s been doing just as well. I’m really hoping I can get a couple of new fans on it this year but nothing yet. It’s charming plant that sparkles and is quite fragrant
