Aerangis punctata

Spike to flower took about 5 weeks. Mounted on pressed cork with some LFS. Grown under bright artificial light with fairly high humidity levels and warm temperatures.

Right, terrariums... have half a dozen of these orchids in different enclosures. They were acquired as small seedlings. All of them are coming into flower at the same time. The second and third set of pictures (middle three and last two in the above post) are within a 5x5x11" acrylic box. This particular plant was grown & raised inside that box with good results. I am especially fond of the foliage and the small size of this plant ~ and the flower is a nice bonus!

Below is another terrarium where I grow A. punctata. I also have two other growing enclosures that house this species. The only real difference with those terrariums (growing conditions) is that they are a tad bit more humid, and are grown under a slightly different light spectrum.

Second round of blooming this year. I have a few of these in different set-ups (growing conditions are fairly similar). They all flower around the same time frame.

Thanks. An easy miniature that doesn't take up much space. Foilage is pretty nice especially if you can eye it close up.

Thank you. Trying to organize the terrariums (slowly but surely)... to accomplish some rhyme & reason per se, especially in my large one. In the process of getting a new camera (high on the priority list), but I'm not looking forward to the learning curve in how to operate it, and/or learning how to take good pictures.

I have a lot of miniatures that I really can't photograph with the camera I have (and giving them the justice they deserve ~ eg., Barbosella australis, B.microphylla, B. orbicularis).

This is what I am presently in the process of organizing... I really can't show the entire view with this photo (shows about a 1/3) because my old point & shoot is really limited in what it can do. Hopefully I'll have some decent pictures of the miniatures in the near future.

The nice thing about miniatures is that they don't take up much space (which is especially nice if growing indoors with limited space).

One drawback with miniatures: the "mini" in "atures" truly applies to some of the flowers they produce. You almost have to pull out a magnifying glass... having a camera with good macro options really does comes in handy for taking photos.

Although I enjoy the flowers, I enjoy the foliage even more (texture, shape, form, and the different color hues). One problem I experience (with growing orchids in terrariums) is the occasional fungus gnat. Pings really help with that problem, so I try to incorporate one (or a couple) into my set- ups.




I like Tillandsia a lot (for the same reasons as miniature orchids). Another plant that does not take up much space.
