If you build it they will come... I love my big tall Dens and they are finally getting good light in this thing so I’m hoping I’ll have a better round of blooms next year

thanks! Google and YouTube kept me out of too much trouble.

the conduit sounds really cool. Do you have any pictures of it? I would love to see it!

Thank you so much! Since I have such a tiny outdoor space for entertaining I really had to at least try and make it aesthetically pleasing. I really wanted to keep the tropical feel out there. Now I want to try and make a cover to fit it for the winter. That would help so much with trying to move my plants around as little as possible and avoid disasters like last winter when I dropped or knocked over about 2 dozen as I was trying to set up my last greenhouse.

I have a few pix of my "shade" set-up ( built of conduit except for the patio cover itself that was there when I moved in 12 years ago, just added Aluminet shade cloth) on my website. Check out Growing Areas

I can provide more deatailed photos on request. The "gotcha" on this approach is the fittings (corners, T-s, etc) The conduit is from Home Depot (3/4") but the fittings come from the local swap meet (where there is a vendor whose main customers are other vendors). One can find them on the 'net, but they are heavy and run up the price of of shipping.

That is an absolutely incredible space! Super jealous and I would love to have something similar one of these days

Haha! Thank you! I had figured I assisted long enough in orthopedic surgery. So in my head- a drill is a drill, a saw’s a saw, and I know how to screw stuff together... so this should be too different, right? Lol

I need to move into a bigger space first! My courtyard is only about 175 square feet, so it’s a bit limiting to say the least. I love living in the city but sometimes (like when in look at Roberta’s set up!) I long for a bit more room to stretch

I feel your pain... I got into orchids shortly after I bought a condo - 6 ft. x 10 ft. atrium, 6 ft x 20 ft front patio. I fought it for about 10 years, finally sold it and bought a house with a nice, big yard. By that time, the orchids were really crowded... but what pushed me over the edge was a nastygram from the Association complaining about the moss on my front steps visible from the common area (from all my watering). Oh, the horror...
