WOW! your exhibit is very impressive, Ron ! Attention to details and the juxtaposition of the plants to compliment each other surpasses beyond aesthetics.
The glass enclosement is quite simple but the overall product is awesome.

I went to the show and your display was beautiful! I kept coming back to look again! I didn't know that was your display. Maybe next year I can meet you. I think I'm going to join the Mount Baker Orchid Society so maybe I will before then. Congrats on the award!

Hi Calypso (if you look at my Flickr photostream you'll see I just posted a picture of your namesake). The base for the display is made to look like lava but is simply styrofoam - sheets of 2" foam glued together and carved into shape and then painted. The first coat is a black oil base paint very lightly applied which melts the styrofoam a bit and makes it more realistic. It's subsequently painted with various other colors, including grey, moss green and dark brown.
