we have the same grow zone 7a...if you have a south bay window you can grow vandas in winter and in summer you can hang it outside where there is a bright shade(I hang them on my fire escape) ...when my vandas flower, I put it inside the living room where theres no windows at all...only lamp lights strategically placed for mood lighting...and vanda blooms last from four to six weeks...after its bloom is done it goes back to the bright light on the windowsill...that goes with my phals and other blooms...I dont have to put a special light for the blooming flower to help it live...it just survives the lack of sun
