I recently bought a bunch of new plants so am posting an update of my high-light setup.
I live in the frozen north so all my orchids are grown under lights. Anything needing less than 1500fc goes in terrariums, but anything 1500fc or higher goes in my secret garden.
I have converted half of a walk-in closet into a grow room. I have a 600w HPS fixture in there and have protected the walls from moisture using window shade material.
I run a fan and humidifier in the closet and keep the door closed at night for max humidity.
The growing area is approximately 3 feet x 5 feet.
Here is a shot from the doorway, showing the remaining closet shelves, fan, humidifier, etc.
Here is a shot of the growing area itself
The floor gets 1500fc exactly, so I grow phals and miltoniopsis there. There are a couple of mounts down there too, hanging from pot edges.
The shelf on the left gets 2000fc, and I have vandaceous orchids hanging above that.
The high shelf on the right gets 3500+ fc and is where I grow most of my cattleyas. A vandaceous hangs above it and a row of paphs is hidden underneath in the shade.
The back wall has more vandaceous.
I'm pretty much full up now - adding something will require removing something else, unless it's a miniature! It looks like there's a little space but I'm projecting out to where what I have grows to max size and there's no room left.
