I recently bought a bunch of new plants so am posting an update of my high-light setup.
I live in the frozen north so all my orchids are grown under lights. Anything needing less than 1500fc goes in terrariums, but anything 1500fc or higher goes in my secret garden.
I have converted half of a walk-in closet into a grow room. I have a 600w HPS fixture in there and have protected the walls from moisture using window shade material.
I run a fan and humidifier in the closet and keep the door closed at night for max humidity.
The growing area is approximately 3 feet x 5 feet.
Here is a shot from the doorway, showing the remaining closet shelves, fan, humidifier, etc.

Here is a shot of the growing area itself

The floor gets 1500fc exactly, so I grow phals and miltoniopsis there. There are a couple of mounts down there too, hanging from pot edges.
The shelf on the left gets 2000fc, and I have vandaceous orchids hanging above that.
The high shelf on the right gets 3500+ fc and is where I grow most of my cattleyas. A vandaceous hangs above it and a row of paphs is hidden underneath in the shade.
The back wall has more vandaceous.

I'm pretty much full up now - adding something will require removing something else, unless it's a miniature! It looks like there's a little space but I'm projecting out to where what I have grows to max size and there's no room left.

You are smarter than I am. I just fill er up and plan to deal with the growth part later. Looks great.

Looks good. I notice you use a lot of clear square pots. I am starting to like square pots better as they are more stable with a top heavy plant. Do you find that and have you found any disadvantages to them? I am about to place an order for pots for me and our society.

I also like the square pots because they are much more stable, and deeper, than round pots.
I have found no disadvantages, other than the fact that the biggest one they make is not quite big enough for my biggest phal.

Thanks for the info. Have you tried Quartre Acre Orchids? I almost think she is in your neck of the woods but I may be wrong. She has quite a good selection of pots.

Thanks for the tip. Looks like they have the same pots as Quartre Acre for many of them so a good alternative to compare or if someone is out of stock. We can't seem to find much for supplies in Canada so I am always on the lookout for a good source. Tindara didn't come up in all my Google searches for some reason.

Great grow area! You are much more scientific about it, though, than I am. I just go by "feel."

I really really wish I had a free closet!!! I can see a closet in my house being turned into a decent grow area. But alas, cats, guests and me and my husband have hogged all closets.

<Sigh> I love your setup! I'm totally jealous!
