That's great that you can just cover the chids up and not worry about moving them. What material is the top covered with?
Damn those rodents! I have squirrels here, maybe even rats... seems like rats are probably the most destructive, not as destructive as slugs, but destructive none the less. I hope you get them with those traps.

Sara, I'm glad I can cover them up too!! I've moved ALL of them during the Hurricane scares, but that's TOO MUCH!! So, that's why I say I won't do it in the Cold!
As for the material on top, do you mean All year?
Or just during this cold (covering) time?
For all yr, it's a covered with a Shade Cloth.
For the cold, it's what you see, a very large piece of Visqueen plastic, that fits perfect, except for the end/sides, as you can see the sheets/blankets in the pic.

I am sad too . because of my dog mice can't approach orchids .but slugs ate my 2 oncidium spikes .First time I got 3 spikes.Slugs ate them. Now I keep them indoors in the nights.

Thank you for the information on the materials Jackie, I was curious about both all year and for the winter. Can you tell that I love your set-up? I showed it to my husband- he cannot do anything about getting me one right now since he has a hernia that needs surgery, oh well, one day.
I am glad you got the rats.

I tell ya, my babies love it!!!
I don't know if you checked out my Photobucket link, but there are better ones in there of it, of all 3 actually, as that's how he built them, 1 at a time. And they are soooo cheap to built too, and sooooo easy!!
