I think it was a great idea. Now you just have to walk down the line with a hose in your hand at watering time.
I'd leave the twine on until they were firmly secured to the wood. Why take it off, does it bother you? I'm sure they love the support it gives them.

Ya, I hear ya's!! I'm not gonna take the lines, rope, etc off. They're all happy with it. Roots dig under it, or lay over it, so no biggie

Jkelee - What I meant in my message was: Ref: the above post. Below your sign "will work for orchids" is a line in pink that states: "pics of some of my Chids in bloom, mounts, and koi pond. Then below that you posted a link to your photobucket.com/jkelee9, which I clicked on but there was NO koi pond, only orchids. I am straight now as you gave me the direct link to your pond. Thanks, sorry for the confusion.

Call me copycat
Hey Jkelee!
I just wanted you to know that, taking my inspiration from your awesome orchid hotel, I'm currently in the process of building something very similar on a section of my back deck. I should have it finished by this Saturday, and I'll be sure to post some pics so you and your hubby can see what you've started.

Well, my space is limited in this location, so if I do another one it will have to be in a different spot. Good luck on obtaining your 4th though!

I love your setup!! It's too bad the winters here are too cold for me to do something like that!

OK, as promised! Pics of my new orchid hotel...
Now, I realize that someone looking at these pics might be tempted to say, "Wait a minute! All you did was build a covered section to your deck." And although that person would technically be correct, they would be ignoring the fact that my prime motivation for building this structure was specifically to provide a happy hangout for the orchids this summer. Also, it was your (Jkelee's) orchid hotel that provided me with the inspiration and a basic plan. Granted, it's not really a hotel. Maybe more appropriately called an Orchid Studio Apartment, or what I've begun calling my 'Chid Cabana. Nevertheless, I'm really proud of my work and I am totally stoked about the way it has completely changed the whole look and feel of that area - not to mention I think my babies are going to love it out there!
NOTE: Instead of the lattice panels for the roof, I went with sections of reed thingies. Because A) I like the way it filters the light, plus it looks all tropically and, B) I happened to have some of it lying around doing nothing anyway.
Hope you approve!
