Thumbs up Upstairs loft turned orchid room…hybrids, species, and everything else

Hi all!

The upstairs loft of my home has been in used for quite sometime. Well I say un-used, it’s just our workout room. So it’s used for about an hour a day. It has a bathroom, (think water access) and then it’s just a large open room, about two of a regular bedroom size.

I decided to move my orchid collection here since they were over-growing my windowsill and my toddler keeps knocking the plants over and even has up-rooted a couple. Oops. So I knew it was time for a move as my collection had gotten too large to keep him away from it.

If anyone has any questions about my setup and what I used, If I forget and don’t include the info here, please ask me!

I used an Amazon 5-tier shelf, and Barrina T5 lights. For now one on each shelf, because I mainly just grow Phals. Both species and hybrids.

After I moved them to this setup from my windowsill, about half of them grew a spike! And pretty much every single one put out a new leaf. My shelves are pretty close together so I actually got some plants stressed because I kept the lights on too long. Once I adjusted day length to 12h, everything seems to be just fine (even the tiny compot that I have bred by Mike Mims &#129323.

I have growing here species:
Phal. bastianii
Phal. pulchra
Phal zebrina var. sumatrana
Phal amboinensis ‘Wilson’

Then some hybrids I have
Phal Mirtuo Purple Dragon ‘Quilin’
Phal SWR Snow Fairy
Phal Mainshow Cyborg
Phal Cesario Gene Tobia ‘Jiaho Lyme’ SM/TOGA
Phal Jiaho’s Pink Girl’#3’
Phal Mituo Salor Terms ‘Black Angel’ AM/AOS
Phal Sogo Vivien’Golden Leaves’
Phal Bronze Maiden

And a few other hybrids unnamed yet,
And also a Cl. Grace Dunn
And a Bc. Gulf shores Beauty

Moving the plants out of reach of children is really smart. I lost countless really nice orchids due to my children and pets.
